Harper Malulani Kukuihui'ipo Kahalewai

We went to our regular Monday appointment at the OB's office for our growth ultrasound, where we found out she was breech and that if she wasn't turned, either manually or on her own, we would be having a scheduled c-secton a week before her due date.

But someone had another plan of her own...

Around 1:30 am on Tuesday morning, I woke up to my water breaking in my sleep. To be honest, I had the hardest time figuring out what was going on at the moment. I woke up, and all I knew was I was peeing, and I could not stop. I was racking my brain to try to figure out what was happening and why, and after a little longer than I'd care to admit, I realized it had broken, and that I should probably call James to let him know we needed to head to the hospital.

After frantically shuffling around our apartment trying to pack our bags for the hospital, we finally got to labor and delivery to find out that she was in fact still breech and the on call anesthesiologist was a stickler about having not eaten for at least eight hours before I'd be allowed to have my c-section.

So after waiting in triage inside of Labor and Delivery for a few hours, they finally took James and I back for surgery. I was so quickly disoriented and itchy from the medication they had given me, that before I knew it, Harper was born.

Harper Malulani Kukuihui'ipo Kahalewai was born at 9:59 am on October 22nd. She was 5lbs and 14oz and 19in long.

Words cannot express how happy this little blessing has made me. Although she was a little earlier than expected, I wouldn't want anything else. Becoming a mother has been the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. And I wouldn't change it for the world.

Baby H Update!!

So we had another ultrasound this morning, and not to our surprise, she didn't cooperate with the ultrasound lady. She was facing my back the entire time, so we couldn't even see her little face. She was not having it at all, I mean, it was at 7am, but I think she could have at least given us something ;)

We did find out that she is breech, and almost 37 weeks she more than likely isn't going to flip around. Which I'm a little bummed, and quite stressed about. From what we were told, there is a way to manually try to flip her around, but it'd be really painful for me, and could cause my water to break, which would get her here even earlier than planned. And to top it all off, there was only a 30% chance it would work, she could still flip back around afterwards, and we'd be doing it next Tuesday. Not a happy Momma.

So I should be getting a call later this week to schedule a C-Section for a week before my due date. Which they would have scheduled even if they did try to flip her. So it's hard for me to want to try to flip her, just because my doctor hasn't given me much confidence that its going to work.

Its kinda funny, I was completely fine with the idea when I thought I had a choice, but now that I don't really feel like I have one, I really don't want to do it. But I will deal with it if I don't have to be pregnant any more haha :)

So in 3 weeks (more like 2) we will be meeting our little girl!!! Not necessarily how I thought we would, but still meeting her regardless :)

6 Weeks Left!!

I can't believe there are only six weeks until our little girl is here!! Maybe even less ;)

We are getting so excited for her to be here already. We can't wait to just snuggle Baby H all the time :) It has been soo tempting to just run out and get everything that she is going to need, it's been hard for me to wait until the shower next Saturday. But we will have everything we need soon enough.

We were lucky enough to be given a crib by a family friend of my parents who were in my ward growing up. Such a big load off of our plate. We just need to wait to have the space to set it up :) hopefully we will be moving into a house when our lease is up in February. If not hopefully just a bigger apartment :)

We have another ultrasound at 36 weeks to see how big she's gotten, and for my doctor to decide if I need to be induced early or have a c-section.

A few weeks ago when I took my glucose tests, I didn't pass them just by a few points. Which has been a bummer, but not totally miserable, just a lot more meal planning then I'm used to. Luckily they haven't had to put me on any medicine for it yet, just changing how I eat has managed it pretty well so far. Luckily only a few more weeks of this too haha :)

Ugh! Those Darn Braxton Hicks!!

I think Baby H is really trying to get this show on the road a little early!! I've been soo sore the last couple of days from some Braxton Hicks. To be honest, I didn't know what was going on when we went in last night, but after I called the doctor's office who told me we should go, they told me I was having contractions! Luckily, the nurse in L&D at the hospital said I wasn't dilated at all, so hopefully she decides to stick around a little bit longer!! But it does make me glad there are only 8 weeks left!

Finally feels like we're in the home stretch. Now we've just gotta finish getting all of her stuff together so she can come play with us :)

The last ultrasound we had about a month ago, she was already 3lbs!! For my sake I hope she doesn't get too much bigger, hopefully nowhere near the size James was when he was born!! I don't want my baby to come out like a toddler haha :)

I can't wait for it to really cool down though, Arizona has never felt so dang hot!! I guess it makes how cold they keep my office not so bad haha :)

Less than 100 Days to Go!!

We are finally in the double digits!! She will be here (hopefully) in 99 days or less!! I'll be 26 weeks tomorrow which means we're just about to finish the second trimester and enter the last one! 2/3rds of the way done :)

It seems like it has been going so fast, but so slow at the same time. Looking back, it feels like we just told our families, but looking forward it feels like we still have forever to go until she's finally here.

We've picked out all the big stuff we'll be needing for a while (I think) and we just want to wait until D-Day gets a little closer before we actually go get it. But its a nice relief to have that finished for now.

James loves to make her kick me. He'll poke her and try to wiggle her around so she'll get mad and kick me really hard. They're already trying to gang up on me haha :) She's still quite the little ninja, loves to move around and kick me in the bladder, which is so fun while I'm at work.

I'm starting to take more naps like I did the first trimester, and with how hot Arizona is, all my energy just drains out so quickly! So hopefully it starts to cool down here soon so I don't have to nap all the time :)

I still can't believe that she's so close to being here, we're so excited!!

Tales of Pregnancy Brain and A Little Girl Update

It's getting worse.
From little things like trying to put the car key in the mailbox, to leaving the oven and a burner on. It gets progressively more and more interesting what I'm doing as the days go on.
Last Saturday, instead of just moving the pieces to the changing table we bought away from and off of the couch, I decide that the only way to get them out of the way is to put it together. Not until after I was done, and quite exhausted from doing it,  did I realize that moving the pieces was an option. James sure had a good laugh when I told him!

And an update on our little girl :)

She's as active as ever these days, she was having a party this morning as I woke up. I thought all she wanted was for me to move sides, but that wasn't the case. She just kept on wiggling up a storm :) I'll be 24 weeks on Thursday, which means just 16 more weeks until we meet her!!
We have another ultrasound in the middle of August, so it'll be nice to see her and hopefully get some good pictures!
We're slowly but surely trying to put together everything that she's going to need, we've picked out a stroller and car-seat,  hopefully we'll have a Pack N' Play picked out soon, since we don't have room for a crib in our apartment right now, but we'll get one when our lease is up in February. Gathering cute little outfits and trying to think of everything we need, because she'll be here before we know it :)
James still hasn't been able to feel her move yet, but I'm hoping he will in the next few weeks :)

Baby Update!!

So after two attempts of looking, we finally know we're having a little GIRL!!! It was kind of a shock for me especially since everyone, including us, had thought we were gonna have a boy. We definitely thought wrong on that one.

Unfortunately, this crazy girl takes after me and doesn't like cooperate when people are trying to take her picture, so I still have one more anatomy scan I have to go to since baby girl doesn't want to show us anything and they haven't gotten all the pictures they need. I'm hoping the upcoming one will be the last one for a while. The first one she was asleep, face-down in a ball. During the second one, she was moving around like crazy (because I had waffles with syrup for breakfast) So the poor ultrasound tech couldn't hardly ever get what she needed. Luckily the things that she did get have all looked great, so I wasn't worried that they needed to refer me to a perinatologist to get this next one done.

Now comes the hard part, finding a name for her. We've got a few that we like, but none have jumped out at us or anything. James and I want all of our kids to have Hawaiian middle names, and I do have one of those I like, but its not long enough for James, so if we used that one we'd have to give her two.  So much for trying to have short(ish) names haha :)

Within the last week or so I've been starting to feel her move around a little bit. Mostly when I'm laying in bed at the end of the day, trying to get her to move :) I've found that if I lay in just the right spot, I can feel her move around in there and it seems like she's almost hitting me to try and get me to move haha :) I'm looking forward to being able to feel bigger movements soon and hopefully get James to feel it too. He's been trying to see if he can feel her ever since I told him I felt her movin' around in there :)

This week I'll reach the half-way point and be 20 weeks! Now there's just 20 more until we get to meet our little girl :)

Anatomy Scan!!!

I've been counting down.

60 hours until we "hopefully" know if we are having a boy or a girl!!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I've heard some ladies have gone to the emergency room and pretending something was wrong with them just so someone would give them an ultrasound. Honestly, over the last few days that has sounded like a completely logical thing to do :) but I won't do it. I'll just try to be patient and hopefully the little one cooperates and shows us the goods!!

I need this next two and a half days to go by faster!! I can't wait to meet out little boy or girl :)

Us Update and Baby Stuff :)

So we're all settled in and getting into the groove of our apartment living :) I recently got a job with the same company James works at, unfortunately our shifts never overlap. So its been different trying to adjust to trying to spend time together when we're both home. Thank goodness for the weekends where we get the majority of the time we can spend together :)

Recently we told our families, friends and Facebook our most exciting news... We're gonna have a baby!!! :) Its been awesome and a little weird knowing there's gonna be a miniature person running around that looks like us! But exciting none the less :) So I figured I'd answer some questions :)

Due Date? November 14th, I'm currently 14 weeks as of today :)

Was It Planned? Kinda-Sorta, Not really. Long story short, we had decided we wanted to try and give it a go, but after the semester ended  (when we planned to start trying) I got the flu for three weeks, James started his job, a new semester of school started, and to top it all off, we moved. Life sorta got in the way of the plan. But not long after we moved, it happened :)

When Did You Find Out? During our spring break in March. James happened to still be at work when I found out. The funny thing was, we both reacted about the same way. Very excited and happy in the beginning, and then we remembered.... We were planning on going to Disneyland with my in-laws that weekend. The trip was a little less fun when I couldn't really do much at the park besides walking and eating. But we still had a good time and we were glad we knew before we left.

How Am I Feeling? Not bad. Its been a lot easier since I got over the nausea. Which felt like it lasted forever while it was happening. But I am more than glad its over :)

Do You Know What You're Having? No, not yet. Unfortunately we won't find out for almost four more weeks!! But we have the appointment set up! June 13th is the day :) I'm so excited!! I've had this gut feeling pretty much the whole time that it's gonna be a boy. James makes fun of me for calling it a him, or he, when talking about the baby. But we'll see what happens in a few weeks :)

Things I'm Digging? Bagels. Juice. Work. Not being nauseous anymore. Letting our families know. Not having to wake up in the middle of the night to pee. Fruit snacks. Anything with milk or cheese in it, basically dairy products, I've been such a dairy fiend lately. Spending the weekends with James. CheezIts.

Things I'm Not Digging? Peeing all the time during the day. Being moody. (Poor James) Not being able to sleep without some sort of bra on. Waiting for the gender scan. Lack of an appetite. Not being able to remember anything. Being tired. The elastic band thing I got to hold my pants up.

Hopefully I keep updating and take some pictures of my progress :)

Our Little Home :)

Well we finally moved, and got all settled into our apartment!! We are definitely glad to finally be on our own for the first time :) Here's our lovely place :)

This job James has now has really been a blessing for us. He does such a great job, and works so hard with his job and his school work. He's a good man, I definitely got lucky with him:)

I'm excited to see what else is in store for us :)

What's Up with the Kahalewai's?!

Well a new semester has started, and things are definitely changing for the two of us :) I'm going to MCC this semester and James is on his last semester at Chandler Gilbert.

James got a really nice job out in Tempe, so we are moving out there the first week of February!! We found a really nice little place close to ASU's campus, and close to work for James. He's been working such odd hours, and being on opposite schedules has definitely been rough, but I am so proud of him and how hard he has been working to support us.

We are very excited to move!! Getting everything together and packing is gonna be the difficult part, but its so nice to know that we're finally going to have a little place of our own :)
